Hey y’all and happy Spring! Welcome back to another blog post on Miss Rock City. This is an appreciation post for Spring in Central Arkansas (but really all of Arkansas)! Springtime in Arkansas is such a sacred time. If you live here, you know there’s such a small window of time where Arkansas weather is between shivering cold and sweltering hot! In today’s post, I am counting down the top 7 things to do in Spring in Central Arkansas.

We’ve survived yet another winter. This one being especially cruel due to Covid-19 still lingering and Arkansas Snowmageddon 2021. Now that thousands of vaccines are rolling out and the snow has melted away, I wanted to post something that would make people happy and also give them a reason to want to get out. Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has officially lifted the mask mandate in Arkansas. However, many establishments are still requiring masks at their own discretion.

If you don’t mind, I’d love it if you shared this blog post on your Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Now, get out there and ENJOY springtime! Just don’t forget your Claritin.

7. Crawfish Boil

Many crawfish boils and block parties happen all over the Central Arkansas beginning late March and early April – you just have to know where to look. Four Quarter Bar in the Argenta Arts District in downtown North Little Rock is hosting a crawfish boil on April 10th. If you can’t make it, seafood restaurants such as Eat My Catfish sell crawfish by the pound. Grab your friends and family and throw your own Crawfish boil. You better invite me though!

6. Picnic in the park

Riverfront Park, Two Rivers Park, Murray Park… wherever you choose to go doesn’t really matter. What does matter is choosing a day with low-precipitation in the mid-60s to mid-70s and bringing a blanket, a picnic baskets, and some sunscreen.

5. Opening day at the River Market Farmers Market

On May 1st, the Little Rock Farmers Market returns to the River Market for its 47th season. Although many other markets scatter Central Arkansas during Spring, the Little Rock Farmers Market is one of the most popular because of its location in downtown Little Rock. It is open every Saturday morning so be sure to check it out on a nice, warm day.

4. Opening day at Dickey-Stephen’s Park in Little Rock

This is my personally my favorite part of Spring in Central Arkansas. It’s when Arkansas’s minor league baseball team, the Arkansas Travelers, step up to bat after a long off-season and start playing America’s national pastime. Opening Day 2021 is on May 4th, so hurry up and order tickets. A pro-tip: Order the BBQ nachos.

3. Visit Wye Mountain in Wye Township

Nothing says Spring in Central Arkansas more than daffodils. Wye Mountain in Wye Township is located right outside of Little Rock a little ways. There they host the Annual Wye Mountain Daffodil Festival in early spring when the daffodils are at its peak. Many locals travel here for that perfect photo op and to pick from the large beautiful field of daffodils. Frolic on out to Wye Mountain!

2. Oaklawn Racing and Gaming in Hot Springs

Spring in Arkansas is not too hot, not too cold. Scratch that… still probably too hot thanks to the Arkansas’s great humidity. We like to take day trips down to Hot Springs to visit Oaklawn and gamble on the premier Thoroughbred horse races. Also, check out Arkansas Derby Day hosted annually by Oaklawn.

1. Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs

In the #1 spot for things to do in Spring in Central Arkansas is of course, visit the Garvin Woodland Gardens. The beauty, peace, and serenity of the Garvin Gardens goes unmatched to anything else in Central Arkansas. From mid-March to May, the tulips and azaleas are at their peak so it is the perfect adventure for the whole family.

That is it for my top 7 things to do in Spring in Central Arkansas! If you are a local to Little Rock, what are your top things to do in Arkansas in Spring?
