Well Happy Memorial Day, everyone! Who had to go to work today? This girl did! I’d probably be salty about it all week long if it wasn’t for me taking this Friday off and a little bit of next week too. I’m celebrating for a different reason today because I’ve got some happy, happy news. Just last month, I had my first annual review at my job. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been a Developer for Dillard’s since last September. This post was meant to come out a lot sooner than it did but life happens. This milestone is still so fresh on my mind that I thought I’d talk about it and extend a piece of advice for others who are in the same boat.

If you’re a young adult like me and/or just now getting your feet wet in the corporate world, then you know how scary work can be at times! Humble brag- but I’ve overcome a lot since starting out and I feel like they’re all mini-successes that I celebrate in my mind everyday. I’m going to be honest though, I’ve hit many more roadblocks getting here and you wouldn’t believe how much I have yet to improve.

Anyway, so what happened in my review?

I was worried to say the least, but remained trustworthy in management that they wouldn’t be overly harsh on me and kick me to the curb because I’m still considered “in training.” Turns out, I was right! I am super relieved. Key word here: TRUST. Trust in the system. Trust in your boss. Trust yourself even if you don’t know what the hell you’re doing half the time. Nothing was mentioned that I wasn’t already aware of about both my soft skills and my technical skills. Like I’ll be honest- I don’t deserve the gold medal for developing COBOL programs just yet, but I’m remaining positive in my efforts and trying to stay a marketable asset to my team because at the end of the day, they really do need me. So basically, I’m right where I should be. I have plenty of things to work harder at but THAT’S OKAY. It is for you too. I ended up walking out of the review with a little bit more pep in my step and heavier pockets if you know what I mean.

So that’s my good news! In case you’re wondering, I don’t have that much longer left of being a trainee for the IT department so pretty soon that can no longer be my excuse for sucking major.

Shit…

Just kidding. It means I can finally stop stressing at work and just move on. The scariest part is ovaaaa! I think like 80% of things that we tend to freak out about end up never happening. So worrying is the biggest waste of time.

Okay, let’s get to the style portion of this post. [Before I forget, I want to apologize for the lighting in some of these pictures. It was the worst time of the day that we chose to go shoot. On that note, I’m in the market for a photographer with better judgment…]

It’s been a while since I’ve invested in a romper, and I’m certain I don’t own one as stunning as this one. I first saw this Keepsake romper online via the Dillard’s Instagram account. The second time, a blogger I follow was rocking it in her town of Dallas. She got hers from Nordstrom, however I keep checking back and they sell out quite frequently. Use your personal judgement there. Rush Dillard’s!!! In addition to the romper, I also got to debut these Steve Madden platforms that I’d been eye-balling since LAST SUMMER. I think it’s safe to say that they are the one trend I am most obsessed with for this upcoming summer. So much so that I’ve already ordered more.

Here are other similar rompers I found online:
Stand Tall  ♠  Rose Plunging Satin  ♠  Mauve Crochet Trim

Similar platform sandals:
Apollo Wedges  ♠  Metallic Platform Espadrilles  ♠  Toucan Wedges

Friday, I’m flying out of DFW to the city that never sleeps, New York f*cking City! I will be posting a new and LONG OVERDUE weekly wrap-up before I head out so make sure you don’t miss it. Don’t worry, I’ll also be collecting plenty of NYC-related content to share with all of you as soon as I get back. Thanks so much for reading. Have a great week, everyone!
